About MIDI to PCM
Convert MIDI to PCM. MID files store note events with no audio of their own. PCM is raw pulse-code samples with no container or headers. Sample rate and width must be set by hand since headers carry none..
Why convert MIDI to PCM?
- Larger files than lossy shares with PCM uncompressed quality.
- Keep quality where supported.
- Private, no upload - runs in your browser.
MIDI vs PCM
| Codec | MIDI | PCM 16-bit |

When not to convert MIDI to PCM
- Skip PCM for the smallest share: lossless output stays large, so prefer a lossy target when sending MIDI files.
- Keep a master copy: repeated exports stack small losses, so archive MIDI before batch PCM shares.
Limits
Starting point: MIDI - MID files store note events with no audio of their own. Rendering needs a soundfont, which sets the final timbre. Sample rate and width must be set by hand since headers carry none. Encode PCM (PCM 16-bit) from MIDI at 256k for music or 128k for speech, starting from the master.
