When not to convert MKV to GXF
- Skip GXF for archival masters: lossy compression discards detail, so keep the MKV original.
- Flatten transparency first: GXF has no alpha channel, so composite MKV over a background color.
Limits
Starting point: MKV - Multi-track container for video, audio, subtitles. Only the selected tracks carry over, so pick audio and subtitles first. Server metadata drops on export; the picture and sound carry over. Encode GXF (MPEG-2 / PCM) from MKV at a bitrate near the source, and confirm the audio track before converting.
How conversion works
Conversion runs entirely in your browser with FFmpeg WASM. Files never leave your device.
